AOE sick of low effort late stage capitalism branding (rant)

Thread Analysis: The user is expressing frustration with the current state of the beauty industry, specifically criticizing brands for their minimalist packaging and high prices.

😠 Anger

I miss Urban Decay's palettes when they actually had fun color combos and not just nude everything. So boring! The whole reason I was drawn to UD was the range & variety of colors.

Eyeshadow crumbling, creasing/sticking, and reacting - any advice?

Thread Analysis: The user is discussing multiple products and brands related to their experience with makeup and primers.

🙌 Helpfulness

Hey love I would suggest trying the urban decay primer potion or the milani eyeshadow primer, which I’ve heard is a dupe for the UD. This is the only primer that’s worked for my oily, sweaty lids that crease easily. Blend it out while it’s wet, allow it to dry and make sure there’s no creasing on the lid before you begin your eyeshadow. I would also suggest investigating your skincare, specifically any eye creams, to see if that might be a factor by making the lid too oily or too dry, which could cause the shadow to slide around/crumble up. I hope this helps, good luck!!!

🤩 Excitement

Congrats!! You def have to go heavier on everything. Heavier base, Blush, lip product (inc. liner + lipstick + gloss) & you want a more intense glitter shadow (like space cowboy by urban decay, ritz by colourpop or stila glitter & glow).

Impressive work! Always a joy to see a well loved palette. How many uses would you say it took you to hit the initial pan? Also thoughts on the formula? I what is your least favourite shade?

Ugh I miss fun urban decay. I still have my game of thrones palette and I refuse to get rid of it like I did with my smokey & fulk spectrum palettes. I miss them so much

Do you use any setting powders? Also the setting spray I use helps with my oily skin and makeup lasting. I use the urban decay de slick setting spray. You can apply the powder and/or setting spray in layers between makeup steps to help lock it it.

New Blend Bunny Professional Collection with Nars Inspired Names

Thread Analysis: The user is discussing a beauty brand (Nars) in relation to another brand's collection (Blend Bunny Professional Collection)

😄 Amusement

Don't know anything about this person but edgy or risque names from makeup brands is nothing new - NARS and especially Urban Decay have been using risque shade names since the 90s, and several of those shade names were used for Illamasqua products (which I guess is a dead brand now).

Urban Decay's Lip Gunk was very true to its name. UD was so fun back then!

Finally threw out a bag of old makeup

Thread Analysis: The post is primarily humorous and self-referential about decluttering and getting rid of old makeup.

I can see how that can lead to regret especially if it’s high quality stuff. Urban decay was definitely better in the 90s and 00s compared to today. I don’t think powder actually goes bad, so unless it changes colors/grows mold/changes texture/smells, I haven’t gotten rid of any current palettes I have (I have in the past if I know they’re colors I won’t use when I used to overbuy). Maybe it’s something you can keep in mind for the future; that you can probably keep things like that and it would actually lead to not purchasing more since it lasts forever anyways.

Yeah it’s also practice and all the years of us just researching and trying new things. Makeup influencers were so huge from like 2011-2017. I remember the urban decay palettes selling out on pre order lol Times have changed though, because that same demographic that collected makeup is more clean girl now. We have super young gen z on the heavy makeup trend again though.

Can't not comment on my favorite palette 😂 A couple of years ago I decided to hit pan in every shimmery shade in this palette. I did it! Even in the pink, although tbh the sticky tape took out a lot of it, because it hard pans so badly. If it wasn't for the formula issues, this would have been UDs comeback palette. It's that good.

Makeup for when you know you’re going to cry

OMG, finally a topic I have way too much firsthand experience and knowledge about! (credentials: official crybaby) Focusing mostly on the area around and directly under the eyes as this is where the tears are: **Mascara/Lashes:** Even though waterproof mascaras are far better than regular ones, I find that some smudging is pretty much inevitable. So instead of mascara, I opt for falsies! * The correct **Lash glue** is going to be your best friend here. I've tried almost every brand out there, and have to say that the **House of Lashes brush on lash glue** is 100% cry proof. It's VERY sticky to the point of being a bit of a pain to remove at the end of the night--but this is a *great* thing if we're aiming for cry-proof! **Duo Lash Adhesive** has been my regular every day glue for decades. It dries down to this rubbery texture which makes it semi water resistant, but I've definitely sweated/cried them off before, especially when wearing lashes with thinner bands. * For the **falsies** themselves, I found that the thicker the lash band, the better they withstood water and oils. I personally recommend the ***House of Lashes*** **Iconic Lite/Iconic Mini** or ***Lily Lashes*****' 3D MINK/3D Faux Mink** Lines (specifically the Miami, Doha, and the Megan). Although these are a little dramatic for every day wear, usually when I'm crying it's after a wild night out with the girls. But if all of those are still too dramatic for your personal preference and want to keep a more natural less dramatic look, I swear by the ***Ardell*** **Demi Wispies** (one of my HGs!) and the ***Kiss*** **Natural lashes** * Or, if you have a special occasion and think it'll be worth the splurge, get a set of **professional lash extensions**. They're expensive, but they're 100000% cry proof (you're actually SUPPOSED to wash them regularly!), and you'll have pretty lashes for a couple weeks. I even skip eyeliner when I have lash extensions! **Eye Makeup:** * **Primer:** I have extremely oily eyelids, and this a HUGE pain for me. I've only found *one* product that's ever allowed my razor sharp cat eye-liner all day, which was the Too Faced Shadow Insurance 24+ Hour Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer (the one that came in a squeeze tube). Unfortunately, they not only repackaged but also reformulated for the worse in 2021. It went from my HG to just meh, similar to Urban Decay's shadow primer which underperforms by a huge disappointing margin IMO. I haven't had a chance to try yet, but heard that the Milani brand eye primer or NYX's Ultimate Shadow & Liner Primer are close and much more affordable dupes! * Eyeliner: This is a hard one. Even with the best primers, every eyeliner is going to run/smudge at least a bit. Eyeliner is the one makeup product I wear the most, and I find myself still reaching for **KVD's Tattoo liquid eyeliner** (brush tip). I've cried this off for sure, but the smudging is very minimal and doesnt streak down the way the Rare Beauty liner does. **Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner** also holds up well, as does Wet & Wild's Break Up Proof Eyeliner. If you're more of a gel/pencil eyeliner person, Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On waterproof eyeliner is also a solid choice! * **Face makeup:** Urban Decay All Nighter Setting spray. Keeps everything in place!
