Butter Blush

I always take the less is more method. I'm extremely cool-toned fair, so I can easily turn into a clown. Having a good base helps a lot—I usually use my calming serum, moisturizer, sunscreen as a primer and then concealer before a little blush. Also knowing if your skin works better with cream, liquid, or powder blushes.

For cream/liquid, use a brush. Rub the applicator on the back of your hand and “prime” your brush with (dab in there and smoosh it around under the brush is coated). Then apply. If you make a fishface, the cheekbones should stand out. Apply blush above that. Blush should go higher now than in the past. I keep it about 1 inch away from my eye. It’s also cute to bring up on your temples and across you nose. Use the remainder of what’s in the brush to do temple/nose though. Those should be lighter touches.

I have a square face too and i’ve found the trick is to not smile when applying it! The moment you stop smiling your face will drop and so will the blush, pulling your face down. Start higher and wider out on your face than you think and spread it a tiny bit at a time using a tapping motion, not a swiping one. I like to apply a tiny amount, finish the rest of my makeup and then take a second look to see if i need more.

I’ve been doing “under painting”. Essentially putting blush on before foundation. I go from clown 🤡 to queen 🫅.

Nyx Buttermelt Blush! Since your skin is light, I would give the shades Sooner the Butta or U Know Butta a try. I have the shade Feeling Butta, but I have to use a light hand with it because it's a bit dark for me. If you want something even cheaper, Essence has some pretty good blushes. If you want to try a cream blush, Elf has their putty blush, which is pretty good. Edit: I forgot to add that the Elf putty blush blends easily, and I always use my fingers with it instead of a brush.

Those two blushes are so pigmented literally one tiny dot is enough. With the Elf blush, apply a little bit on the back of your hand, with a blush brush apply it on your cheek bones then if you want set it with a powder blush like the nyx one or honestly any similar shade to your liquid blush.

Make sure you don't start low on your cheeks. Also don't go outwards. Instead go upwards at a diagonal.

I have a kind of square/round face shape and I like a low blush placement. I don’t let my blush go far above the top of my nostrils and o bring this into my bronzer and down. Because my face is wide I want to keep the focus of my makeup on the center of my face to a voice adding visual width (this is why I dislike lifted or cheekbone blush placement because it makes my face look wider).
