Yeahh at $18-$20 a bottle it’s going to be a really tough bullet to swallow on one bottle of nail polish, especially since now there’s a lot of indie brands that are doing similar specialty polish at a lower price point. I’m enjoying what I have from mooncat, but I don’t see myself ordering from them unless there’s a sale, and even still I think I’ll be able to get a cheaper dupe from another indie company.

Literally so much polish at home. I already have all the mooncats that I’m interested in so I’m going to resist this sale.
Thread Analysis: The user is discussing Mooncat Donations Advertising, specifically the change in advertising language and lack of transparency about donations to cat charities.
At this point anyone inclined to buy from Mooncat because it supposedly helps cats via their brand donations should just order from a more reasonably priced brand like ILNP and make a personal donation to a local cat shelter with the money saved. That way you can be certain your money is actually going to a rescue.

Beautiful! Before I read your description, I thought it was Mooncat’s Root of All Evil.

Not to mention that Mooncat bottles are smaller than most other brands (12 ml vs the typical 15 ml).

ILNP just announced that they're raising the prices of all their polishes to $12.50 which is cheaper than mooncats before this new increase. There's no reason mooncat needs to charge $18 a bottle. Even kb shimmers polish thinner is around $7 and mooncat is charging $15 before increase. Mooncat is pricing themselves out of most people's budgets. I don't know if I'm willing to spend $18. I might have to stick with just ILNP now.

I like Mooncat a lot but it was already too expensive for me and was something I only bought very rarely as a treat so I guess this is goodbye

It’s giving: greed. They are already the most expensive. This seems like an excuse to raise prices even more. The only Mooncat I cannot live without is Drown My Demons and I just bought a backup at their sale. I don’t believe Mooncat will be seeing more of my money any time soon. I was almost at the third tier for rewards too, oh well.

Yeah that’s true but mooncat was already more expensive than a lot of other brands pre-tariffs. From the brands I buy from, they were at 10-14 dollars pre-tariffs and it seems that most are doing 1-2 dollar increases for now. So for me, mooncat is still the most expensive option after price raises
Thread Analysis: The post is primarily humorous and cultural, discussing the pressure to buy nail polish immediately during sales.
It is insane, I only bought from the Mooncat sale cause I knew it was coming up and I had been putting a little bit of money in since February. I don't think that anyone outside the U.S. (even though I live here) should be buying products within since, from what I've heard, the pricing, shipping, and duties can tack on extra $$$. It is simply not worth it + principle + there a tons of amazing indie polishes outside of the states.

I found myself in the “stock up” mentality too and then realized I was actually getting anxious about the sale! Like not whether things would sell out but just so pressured to buy now or never. I decided not to buy at this sale. There are smaller makers I’d rather support because they are actually at risk of going out of business with tariff costs. I don’t feel like mooncat feels that risk so acutely. And at the end of the day this is a luxury item and a hobby - I don’t NEED Stolen Kiss, I just really want it 😅

Considering other brands are cheaper for the same/better quality... yikes. Not sure when other brands will increase prices but Mooncat is looking particularly steep. Polish prices were already getting expensive but the tariffs are really the nail in the coffin. Nail polish is a luxury, we are headed toward a recession, and I can't imagine many people can justify current prices let alone higher ones. I used to buy new Mooncat and Holo Taco collections without batting an eye but now I'm solely sticking to replacing old/unusable polishes in my stash and only when a decent replacement is on mega sale

That is why I said most, not all. It’s mostly non-US based makers that have bottle smaller than 15 ml, such as Phoenix, Dany Vianna, By Vanessa Molina, Danglefoot, Clionadh, with a few US exceptions such as Garden Path Lacquer, Alchemy lacquer, etc.. Most US based indie polish makers have 15 ml bottles. Also, Mooncat does not even qualify as an indie brand and tbh their bottles look deceptively large and I bet most people don’t even know they’re 12 ml.

Basecoat and top coat are mooncat. Polish is Cirque Electric Daisy from last year's Vice collection.

They’re just too expensive and the colors are hardly unique anymore!
