For Holo Taco Canadian customers 😤🥲

Thread Analysis: The user is discussing a product category (tattoos/multicolored nail polish) that is related to beauty.

I agree. If they are Canadian brands, shouldn’t they cater to the Canadian market first? Canadian customers shouldn’t have to suffer because the orange troll wants to burn bridges with the US’s trading partners and allies. I’m won’t be buying anything from Holo Taco anytime soon to support my Canadian neighbors. Also, for Americans, there’s an app called 5 Calls to help badger your US representatives and senators by state to pressure the troll to lift these tariffs and his other nonsense. It shows how your state’s representatives voted on issues and a script to use when you call them. It was cathartic yelling into Debbie Stabinow’s voicemail for the last 2 days straight about this tariff nonsense. I highly encourage it if you’ve had a stressful day at work or are just frustrated.

Refillable nail oil pens not from amazon?

Thread Analysis: The user is inquiring about refillable nail oil pens and their alternatives.

👍 Pro
satisfaction

I use holo taco’s. The oil cartridges are not advertised as refillable but it’s so easy to do. I just use pliers to gently pull off the cap on the oil cartridge, push the stopper down with a stick, and refill with jojoba oil. I’ve had it for about a year and a half and it still works as new and doesn’t leak so the build quality seems pretty solid.

Everyone on IG saying they totally support this change and thank you for the transparency etc etc etc and I just… ugh. This one leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even Holo Taco’s didn’t.

Indestructible nail top coats

Thread Analysis: The user is seeking advice for a specific issue with their nail top coat (Seche Vite Professional Top Coat) that is not performing well.

👍 Pro
🙌 Helpfulness

This sounds like a base coat problem to me. No matter what top coat I use, it doesn't have much effect on longevity. What do you use for base coat?  For top coats, I often hear about Cuticula or KBShimmer, but I use the Holo Taco one because their base coat works very well for my nails. Seche Vite works very well as top coat, though.

Holo Taco - Waste of Space is a black polish with red sparkles and holo, might fit your mood, and it's available at Ulta if you don't want to pay for shipping https://preview.redd.it/bfm0hzy3iove1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6054db52ac20dc1015d2abedfd799e3cff053ead

Is Halo Taco formula unique?

Thread Analysis: The user is discussing a nail polish brand (Halo Taco) and comparing it to drugstore and higher-end options.

👍 Pro
🤩 Excitement

I think that the crushed holo formula might be unique to Holo Taco. If other polish labels have crushed holos like the Rock Candy collection, I'm not sure that it's a signature formula the way that it is for Holo Taco. The self leveling that makes it so easy to use is not unique. Most other premium polishes have that feature that makes the polish spread nicely. It was a revelation to me too when I started using the brand. Holo Taco glitters are amazing, their linear holos are rainbow bombs, their iced metallics are a fan favorite. The iced metallics cannot be captured in photos, you have to wear them to really see it. They look like sequins on your nails. And don't sleep on Holo Taco crèmes. The colors are fine but that self-leveling and their opacity make them a pleasure to use. They can be a bit thick but you can always thin them with a nail polish thinner like a few brands sell. To protect the holo your thinner should include only butyl acetate and ethyl acetate. Fun facts: the holo is short for holographic, which is the multicolored flair of the sparkles. Also, when Cristine started making [YouTube videos](https://youtu.be/1GIAEb6rQMI?si=YMc4l7lIsuo_Psv0) she talked about using a top coat, but people thought she was saying taco. The polish name comes from that: holographic top coat, or Holo Taco! Glad you're here!

Most of my collection is “not quite black” 🙂 OPI Lincoln Park After Dark - deep warm purple (OG, started me on this journey) Mooncat Access Denied- A very dark green with green glitter Mooncat Forbidden Cove - a black jelly with red flakes Holo Taco Devil’s Advocate- an almost black red I just ordered Queen of the Dead, Raven, Gates of Hell, and From the Ashes from the Mooncat sale - I’ve found that a lot of dark colors look almost black in low lighting (I’ll have to wait and see if the new ones are “too bright”) and that’s most of my day. I really like mostly having almost black nails until i get in the sun and then suddenly they’re sparkling

Moving back to lacquer from gel - which brand to order from first?

Thread Analysis: The user is reviewing multiple nail polish brands (Glossier Balm Dotcom, Mooncat, Cirque, and Holo Taco) for their suitability.

❓ Unknown

Mooncat is great. Cirque is too although ppl have issues with the brand (and I guess mooncat too for inaccurate swatch photos) ILNP would be another good brand to checkout. Holo taco... Ehhhhhhh.... idk they have a rabbid fan base, but I'd put them at the bottom of my list in terms of polish. Btw all the brands listed above are considered "boutique". If you're looking for true indies (small polish makers) I'd checkout Sassy Sauce, KB Shimmer, Lurid, Cracked, Polished for Days, Emily De Molly... Omg so many good brands but many don't keep a shop open 24/7. In Canada Clionadh Cosmetics makes some amazing polish as well. Cracked/Sassy/KB have shops open 24/7 and have decent catalogs for indies.

Can anyone help me find something for a friend who went through chemo?

Thread Analysis: The user is looking for nail polish recommendations due to their friend's chemotherapy side effects.

❓ Unknown
(unspecified)

You're such a gem! Is your friend smell-sensitive after chemo? The 10-free ones smell less, to me. I'd recommend a few from Holo Taco or Mooncat, but thinking Holo Taco if you want everything in one order. I'd say a peely base and the pink smoothing base in case their nails got all ridgey like mine did, plus whatever color you choose be an interesting/shimmery/ sparkly one-coater if possible... and a nice QDTC. Cancer sucks so much, but sometimes our free time afterwards is that much more precious. Time-saving products are great. Energy levels may really fluctuate too, so the one-coaters are excellent for not having to sit there waiting for layers to dry. Plus if they got some fingertip neuropathy from the chemo, a more forgiving color that isn't too-too dark (and thus looks bad if you make a teeny brush slip) would be cool. Sending good vibes to you and your friend. You're very thoughtful. 💞

There is absolutely a trick to this kind of chrome polish! A few in fact. Number 1 is making sure you have the right kind of base coat for the polish, when holo taco released their line of chrome polishes like this, they also released a quick dry base coat. The base coat, quick dry or not, also needs to be 100% dry. Not touch dry, 100% dry, as in you can touch the nails together and they move smoothly against each other, no sticking or grabbing. For some reason if there's any moisture, these kind of polishes just grab and lift all over the place. Your technique sounds fine - the 3 swipe method is perfect for this kind of polish, never go back over it because it picks up and moves weirdly. But they do need to be thin coats. These types of polish usually have good opacity in 1 coat, but if you need a second to tidy up, again, the first coat needs to be 100% dry. Same test as the base coat. I find this type of polish to be fairly quick to dry so it's not a huge issue. Same goes for top coat, float, 3 coats, only once the polish is 100% dry Lastly, you need to move quickly for those 3 swipes. Centre, left, right in about 10 to 15 seconds. This is the kind of polish I just don't worry about mess, I can clean up, because the application needs to be faster and therefore can't be as perfectly precise as working with a creme The good news is that even though it's hard to work with, it's beautiful and lasts reasonably well. And in your case OP, where it's lifted and bunched up looks kind of intentional and marbled! It's creating a pretty swirly pattern
